The American Dollar are an experimental instrumental band with post-rock credentials from Queens, New York.

The name and music are part of a series of contemplative reflections based on the world we live in, and exactly how we live in it. These expressions take the form of positive, negative, and neutral emotions depending on your viewpoint and the meaning conveyed in the music, whether it is love, sadness, thought, appreciation, rejection, etc.. Meaning is personally and individually creative, a large factor which makes us human.

A Memory Stream, the third release from NYC instrumental-duo The American Dollar (John Emanuele and Richard Cupolo) shows new sides and an overall more mature sound. Working in both rock and electronic zones the album is the bands most consistent effort thus far. Creating some of their richest ambiences and most explosive moments with tracks like Lights Dim and Bump, respectively, this album made top 20 lists of critics and listeners all over the internet late last year. Among the many new emerging groups each year from the French independent scene, it is often difficult to find that rare gem that stands out from the lot, while still maintaining a unifying approach to the music. It seems that in this area, Wendy Code has an overwhelming talent for their alter ego and Anglo-Saxon America.

With a first album that looks like a classic adventure, based in the 70s and 80s, the group that was born in Marseille hits hard. There is indeed a Glam Rock sound hanging throughout Am I Snowing?, not to say 'Rock Opera', without ever falling into kitsch or bad taste. Wendy Code is really a group of the new millennium that has digested its influences and its compositions to confer too much modernity.

Nobody does electronic hip-hop like Nobody does.

The DJ/producer also known as Elvin Estela rose from the underground hip-hop scene of the 1990s, only to become its chameleon. What came next was a stream of soulful jazz/funk/hip-hop, and sunny electronica. And in his third album, Nobody proves that he is just as good as ever.

"And Everything Else" really does live up to its name. Nobody explores the musical niches he had previously left untouched, such as alt-folk, Latin music and psychedelic rock. But he also pays homage to his hip-hop roots, for fans of his previous sounds.

Nobody's third album is a complete mixture of various styles which includes Latin rap, bass-heavy big-beats, sunny psychedelia, electronica, and even a sad, sweet acoustic solo at the end. Yes, none of the styles entirely fit together, but the catchy beats and odd electronic touches keep them linked.

This striking debut by Portland guitarist and composer Teddy Presberg is pure
improv-funk, inspired by the City of Roses and produced in a most unconventional way. Presberg’s Blueprint of Soul is organic – no artificial ingredients.

With a view of the gothic St. John’s Bridge outside his kitchen window in North Portland, Presberg transformed his dining room into a studio and created a musical impression of Portland. “All of the songs were written on the spot. All of the tracks and overdubs were done in one take only,” says Presberg.

In a world of overly perfected pop music, you don’t hear that sort of thing – even on the indie radio stations. “Music is a reaction,” muses Presberg, “so why not keep your reactions as pure and natural as they can be. I’m not knocking the idea of a ‘second-take,’ I just wanted to go with my first response.” Accordingly, Presberg directed the flow of music and his guest musicians to recreate the city of Portland in spontaneous groove-based improvisations. Listen to “Foster Fatty,” (named after Foster Road) and you’ll feel the movement of a big-legged neighbor taking her daily stroll. You will hear the hip, yet dark and slick sounds inspired from the Burnside Bridge on “Beneath the Burnside.” Even a passerby’s meth-amphetamine jaunt from the infamous 82nd Ave appears on “82nd Ave Strut.”

The masterminds behind the Portland, OR-based Soulphonic Soundsystem project are the duo of producer DJ Santo (Transistor Lounge founder and host of syndicated radio show "Something Different") and multi-instrumentalist Chauncey Canfield, who was named SPIN magazine's "Best Unsigned Band" of 1998 and co-founded DC-based jazztronic trio, Aubergine 3. The fruit of their first collaboration, "Sonido," a track featuring vocals from Geri Soriano-Lightwood of Supreme Beings of Leisure, was on a 12-inch that was embraced by truly global tastemakers such as Richard Dorfmeister and Rainer Truby. On the strength of this single - a favorite at LA's Transistor Lounge parties - the duo toured the West Coast behind Mark Farina, Diplo and Bugz in the Attic.

Now comes their debut album, Soulphonic Soundsystem: Volume One, that incorporates broken beats and jazz breaks with Latin flavor over live instrumentation with horns and a Rhodes piano. Choice cuts include the indigenous sounds of "Eastern Market," the sultry lounge vibe of "The One" and "Foggy Bottom," which was recently placed in an episode of CSI:NY. With its warm keys and soothing sax line, the break out single "Sonido" is also included here - word is that "Sonido" and "The One" will be featured in upcoming episodes of HBO's Entourage. Listen with an open mind because Soulphonic Soundsystem's sensual sounds and forward-thinking production on Volume One will lighten up any dark winter day.

Jeff Westphal Racing uses one of our bands Fire In The Attic tracks "How To Kill A Feeling And Save A Moment" for their racing video. I think the producers were right on and selected the perfect piece of music from our Musync DVD vol. 1. The track can be found on the Aggro Rock Folder number 2. Brothers and Sisters is a band out of time. Led by real-life siblings Will and Lily Courtney, their music entirely lacks the calculated cool of contemporary indie rock and seems totally oblivious to the cynical machinations of the music business. The siblings are the children of Ragan Courtney and Cynthia Clawson, respectively a Baptist preacher and a Grammy-winning independent gospel artist dubbed “The Christian Barbra Streisand,” both for her voice and for her support of the Christian gay community. When he was six, the Courtney parents took young Will to a Beach Boys concert, and it was over—he decided to become a musician. As a kid, he sang in Houston’s Post Oak Boy’s Choir and before long was recording songs for children’s’ records and commercials. When he was old enough to get out of Houston, Will headed to L.A.—home of his idols the Beach Boys, Love, and the Flying Burrito Brothers.

Today, Brothers and Sisters has grown into a ten member band, performing all over the country. Brothers and Sisters bask in the same golden sunshine as the Mamas and The Papas and the Byrds, but the Austin-based collective also mines that era’s darker side, combining sugar-sweet harmonies with foreboding, gloomy lyrics.
